PGA Seniors Open Bad Ragaz Switzerland

BAD RAGAZ 2014seniors open at bad ragaz 2014 seniors open at bad ragaz 2014-1

Bad Ragaz is a somewhat quirky Swiss town in the eastern part of the country. It is dominated by a street display of modern sculpture and attracts a visiting clientele who show an affinity with that genre. However, for one week each year the town is taken over by the golfing community of the European Senior Tour – perhaps the locals consider the golfers themselves to be rather quirky?!

It was Canadian Rick Gibson who had the honour of hitting the opening shot in the first round and, somewhat unusually, he also had the honour of holing the last and winning putt come Sunday afternoon for a comfortable win in a tournament where he literally led from start to finish.

My involvement was hampered somewhat in as much as two of our regular Christian contingent were missing and so attendance at the Bible study was much reduced. However, a profitable time was had examining Jesus’ claim to be the Bread of Life. One new player on Tour is American Jerry Smith who has shown an interest in attending future studies.

I did have opportunities to strike up meaningful conversations with a number of the players and the accompanying entourage. In particular, one player who is well known to Logos colleagues was staying in the same accommodation as myself and I spoke with him and his wife. it was also good to see the wife of a prominent player joining him on Tour again after a series of operations on her ankle and knee – although wearing a leg brace she was able to walk a few holes in support of her husband. I also had a long conversation with a rather argumentative caddy who rather loudly and angrily berated the Christian faith. Please pray for each of these people.

Both Chris Williams and Hendrik Buhrmann are playing in the US Senior Open which starts this coming Thursday in Oklahoma – please pray for them especially as airline security is being stepped up in the US.

The following week I assist Mark Pinney and Ken Revie at The Open in Hoylake. it’s by far the biggest and highest profile event in the UK golfing calendar and hopefully Christian players will be available for the planned Bible study on the Tuesday evening.

Then attention turns to the Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl and especially the outreach event at the Vale of Glamorgan hotel on Monday July 21 and the Bible study scheduled for the Wednesday evening.

Thank you again for your valued support.
