The Open Championship St Andrews July 13 – 16, 2015

Logos on tour at The Open

The Open, as with any of the ‘big’ events on Tour, is generally something of a loss to Logos with the commitments that the players have and all that goes on at these type of tournaments rending little time for meaningful contact, so I’m glad to report that this one was a little different …

Our US counterparts from Links Ministries were keen to have Bill Rogers [Open champion from 1981] speak at our meeting on the Monday evening of Open week and we had a little gathering of nine people to share this time … Bill was very honest and warm and the time of fellowship was enhanced by the presence of Sally Watson, who plays on the Ladies European Tour [LET] and she shared her thoughts and this coincided with the Logos aim of having a chaplain presence on the LET, so things are afoot there with the Spirit …

The week was full of short but meaningful meetings and chats with;

Pete Hiskey and Brandon from Links; this was particularly good from the point that they are keen to help us out at Logos with the players/caddies from the US and will inform them of anything that is taking place here in Europe should they be coming over to play here, which is happening a bit more these days …

Sports Marketing Surveys; good to meet with John Bushell the SMS owner who had the nudge from God to seek a partnership with Logos through the survey on tour, which has proven most valuable with that all important ongoing weekly contact with those on tour …

Tom Lehman; who has spoken at many Logos events over the years and always friendly …

Bernhard Langer; again he is always most happy to chat over Godly matters and although is seen little these days in Europe always has time for the role of Logos on tour …

Many of you have mentioned to me that you pray for one of the caddies, with whom I had many a chat and he has left the tour over the winter but appeared as a one off carrying for Jonathan Moore [believer] at the Open, so it was good to see him again and he is aware Jonathan is a Christian and so a little chat ensued … Also I came across; Cornel the SA physio to Louis Oosthuizen, [with whom I had a short chat too] who is always great to talk to and passionate about Jesus, then also I had a conversation with Dan Walker who presents many sports programmes on BBC and also is a believer …

So a more profitable ‘big’ event than usual – and as I do this, is becoming a longer one than usual due to the wind and rain in St Andrews …

The last two weeks have been good in that, as opposed to the usual hotel room I have been at the homes of the Kernohan’s for the Scottish Open and then the Glasgow’s for St Andrews, a home from home ….

Next week; the mountains of Crans Montana in Switzerland ….
