Johannesburg Open Kensington GC January 11 – 16, 2016
A good follow up event to the joys of last week … This is the tenth year of the Joburg Open (my fifth) and the sun shone as usual, and with the Test Match next door Joburg was in full sporting mode …
We went on to look at James chapter two at the Wednesday study, where we had a terrific turnout of 15, including SA Caddie
(mentioned last week) … It is really good how every one has something to say and feels free to do so for having read over the passage God had clearly spoken to some there personally and intimately, Good times.
I also managed a couple of 1 – 1 times; first with the SA player, the King James reader who originates from Greece and uses the Greek and Hebrew translation and words like oxymoron! Not bad for an Afrikaans speaker .. His family don’t have TV, and he is a devoted follower of God and of seeing all that is going on in this world through Christ’s eyes …
You’ll recall the media man who has taken part in a couple of our ‘Roadshows’ and he always does a 1 – 1 whenever in SA …. He is feeling that perhaps the time is coming for a move in his job role, so do please keep him in your prayers for that …
I mentioned that the notorious “Caddie” had retired, with the caveat that caddies find it hard to do so, well he wasn’t back as a caddie but on both weeks did the yardage books, although he will only be doing this in SA .. He made his usual B-line for me and went on about the same (Egypt is where everything began etc) as always … He did say that he would keep quiet and listen, that lasted around 5 seconds and he was off pontificating again before running away with arms aloft as if he’d won a victory, highly amusing but so so sad to see someone under the illusion he is … Remember him please.
Our old mate “another Caddie” was on the go again and I was telling him about the next study in James 3 regards the tongue and mentioned the verse;
‘But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.’
He baulked at this and reckoned he might not come out to well there >>> he did say it may be a good idea for him to read some of the bible! I agreed …
So it’s back to the cold and snow from the sun and heat, but there’s no place like home …. And of course, no place like our final home ….
” .. longing for a better country—a heavenly one ..”
Psalm 84:1-2, 10
‘How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.’
