146th Open Championship – July 2017

The 146th Open @ Royal Birkdale GC Southport July 18-21

This was the last of my three week ‘home from home’ tournaments and this time I was invited to stay at the home of Keith and Irene MacIntosh [Keith a past Logos board member] and so travel to Birkdale in my own car with Keith who acted as my SatNav and introduction to, what seemed like, everyone who lives in the North-West of England … Ten yards was about the longest walk before bumping into another friend of his, you probably think I’m exaggerating, I’m not >>> Thanks Keith and Irene for a super week

As is the way at the big events there wasn’t a lot doing in a Logos sense, but Keith had arranged a ‘Meet the ET Chaplain’ evening at his local club in Leyland where we had to go outside due to the numbers attending, either that or because it was so warm?  Either way it was a joy to share a little of the chaplaincy role with some more new people ..

Good also to meet up with a friend from SMS and update him on the progress with the CiS/Logos transition and as you know SMS and Logos have a long term link on the Tour, so we continue to seek God over a new person …

Talking of SMS and survey’s – at The Open the USA version of SMS also appear [the Darryl Survey] so it’s a week when the players/caddies are put upon twice, at least, but I discovered this week that two of the US team are believers when I came across them on the Thursday as I was leaving, so that was encouraging and good for future Opens … it also led to the lasting memory of the Open, for as it is with the openness of Americans, they announced while standing on the practice putting green beside the first tee at Birkdale, ‘let’s pray!’ So we had a huddle and prayer – not a bad way to take my leave …

Next Week; European Open at Hamburg

1 Timothy 2:8

‘I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.’
