BRITISH MASTERS – SEPTEMBER 2017

The British Masters – Close House GC Newcastle September 26 – 28

This is an increasingly popular event which is ‘supported’ by Sky Sports and attracts all the top European players and where Sky have day long coverage from Wednesday [Pro Am with celebrities aplenty] to Sunday. This year it was hosted by Lee Westwood with only one Ryder Cup player not on show, so the crowds were large and Close House was abuzz.

I was looking to meet up with two players and a Christian friend from within the Tour staff. As it turned out we weren’t able to meet at the same time so I met with the separate separately one – to – one and unfortunately the official had commitments that meant he couldn’t get anything organised. We had good chats and studies where we looked at the portion in Luke 9:57 where Jesus makes clear the cost of following Him …

In the media centre, several people said they had read the article that was put together by Christian journalist Kenny Crawford at the Scottish Open event in July when two players and I had an open meeting in Irvine and Kenny was present and laid the foundation for the piece, which was based on the Christian pros on the tour and my role also.

It is in this months ‘Bunkered’ magazine and it was good that many of the journalists had read it and they all thought it came over very well. Who can tell where and with whom God will use something that has been put together under His lead. Many thanks Kenny for doing this …

We’re still on the mainland this week at the Dunhill Links Championship played over three courses [St Andrews’s, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns]. My fears of waterproofs, woolly hats and umbrellas didn’t come to fruition in Newcastle where we reached 18 degrees all three days .. still, I’ll take them all along again this week?!
