Dunhill Links Championship – St Andrews et al – October 02 – 04
Amazingly, considering this event is always played in the autumn, the weather has always been, relatively speaking [for Scotland], very good. This time around the same conditions prevailed and St Andrews town was its usual bustling self with golfers, students and the never ending conveyor of photo happy tourists.
With three courses used, I have learned to stick to St Andrews and let everyone come to me, rather than wander off to Carnoustie [25 miles away, where I do the SMS survey on Thursdays] or Kingsbarns [10 miles the other way] and so we arranged to get together for a Bible study at the Links clubhouse in the ‘auld toon’
It was good to meet up with some South Africans who are over for this event. As it is sponsored by Dunhill, whose owner is a South African, there are several invites for his Ain’ folk. Alongside the usual suspects, we also had a Christian journalist and another player who was doing some caddying work this week
I also have the joy each year at the Dunhill of being ‘put up’ by the Glasgows, Lindsay and Anne, and many thanks to them for their hospitality over the last eight years. Lindsay had played in the recent Logos Golf Ministries Pro-Am which was the culmination of a vision given by God to our Scottish ambassador, Vincent Brown, who uses LGM as his attachment when playing in regional tournaments, that Logos would have an event on the Scottish PGA Region schedule, and so it was. Great!
Next Week is the last of the vaunted Rolex Series with the Italian Open in Milan.
